In this really strange time the youth ministry goes on! It is different but it is still ongoing. Every Wednesday night we meet by Facebook Live streamed from my house. Young people tune in at 6:30 pm and we have a time of worship with David and Nick on guitar and Abby and I singing with them. Afterward we do a short lesson.
Some of the topics we have taught on are “pruning”, “God making good from the difficult times”, “Easter”, “early church practices”, “the cup that gets sloshed”, and even “mushrooms growing in the dark” . Some of these sound odd but all have a point that is grounded in scripture.
We issue a “Kahoot” challenge that the kids do on their on phone each week that earns a Chick-fil-A gift card for the winner. We deliver the gift card to winners home. We call it Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner. Each week questions are posed, participating kids answer and the results come in to determine who wins the gift card.
On two occasions we have driven packets of snacks and goodies to the homes of the young people to keep them engaged and to let them know we care. It is a challenge to keep kids tied in during this time, so we try to vary themes and keep things fun.
It can not be too soon until we are back at church playing gaga ball and doing lessons in a big circle and being socially not distant at all! We in leadership of the youth are looking forward to seeing all the youth in person again soon!
