Dear Restoration Church Parents,
A couple of weeks ago we announced that we were no longer continuing with Awana as our Wednesday evening curriculum for our children and preschool departments. This was not an easy decision for the Elders or the staff. Restoration Church has a long and mostly successful history with Awana and many of our families have seen their children’s faith and knowledge of God’s Word strengthened buy this material.
In light of these facts, I am writing to help you understand why we made this decision. We have had meetings over the past two years at the conclusion of the Awana year. There has been a waning of support for the program. Some individuals are very committed, but by and large, leadership has been difficult to find. We placed a call for volunteer leaders in the church newsletter this summer and not one person responded to the call for help. We have had a response for the middle school and high school age students, and this will continue at the Carmichael’s house on Sunday evenings.
We are excited about TeamKID: Kids In Discipleship, as our new Wednesday evening curriculum. TeamKID is a fun, high-energy ministry that encourages kids to know Jesus Christ and grow in a relationship with Him. All parts of TeamKID-Bible stories, Scripture memory, life application, missions, and recreation-connect to teach life lessons to kids. We have been using TeamKid over the summer on Wednesday evening and have had a good response from the children. It is my hope that many of you who have love for children will join Jamie and the other excited members of the Children’s Ministry team as they continue to share God’s love with our children.
Lastly, we have been in contact with the staff at Fox Hill Road Baptist Church concerning their Awana Ministry. They have agreed to welcome our children on Wednesday, as we have welcomed many children from other churches to our services in the past.
Please know that it is our desire to provide our children with the best possible opportunity to meet Christ as their Savior, and to grow in their love and devotion to Him through a collective and individual discipleship emphasis. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 757-319-2611.
In the bond of Peace,
Michael C. Smith, Pastor
